MBA profiles at top B-Schools

Indian MBA admissions at top B-Schools by caste 



I did an analysis for Indian top B-Schools admits by caste.

For doing so, I compared the search results on LinkedIn by adding Filters of last name and School.

For example, for Jains studying at Harvard Business School:

Above filter is applied.

Last name is put as Jain, and School as Harvard Business School.

And it shows 189 results.

Similar results were obtained for 42 surnames belonging to Arora, Khatri, Agarwal, Jain, Brahmin, Maheshwari, Gupta castes.


Brahmins, Baniyas, Maheshwari, Khatri, Arora surnames are used for a comparison.







For obtaining total population, I used two sources:

1. Forbears was used. For example: https://forebears.io/surnames/garg

Above links tells us total number of people with Garg surname in India.


2. Total number of profiles on LinkedIn was used.

For example:


Putting only last name filter tells you total number of profiles by last name.

1. Brahmins showed 4x lower success rate (selections per capita) than Agarwal/Khatri/Arora comparing the population sizes (Forbears), and 2x lower if we compare total number of LinkedIn profiles.


2. Gupta showed 2x lower success rate (selections per capita) than Jain/Agarwal/Khatri comparing the population sizes (Forbears), and 10-20% lower if we compare total number of LinkedIn profiles.


3. Maheshwari caste was placed slightly below Jain/Khatri/Agarwal/Arora.


4. Arora and Agarwal castes show similar success rate, with Arora being better as per population analysis.


5. Khatri caste showed 10-20% better results than Agarwal and Arora caste on LinkedIn analysis, and 30% better results based on population analysis (Forbears).


6. 11/42 surnames with highest achievement rate (more than 50/10,000) as per LinkedIn are: Maheshwari, Goel, Singhal, Mittal, Agarwal, Khanna, Talwar, Chopra, Taneja, Bhatia, Batra.
